Body Acne

Body acne, like face acne, demands attention multiple actions fpr treatment. However, unlike facial acne, body acne offers an added challenge for those seeking treatment. The challenge derives from both the nature of skin in other parts of the body and the area of which body acne covers (sometimes on the back, known as back acne).

While the skin pores on the face do produce some sebum, the skin pores in other parts of the body make even more. The skin pores in parts of the body away from the face tend to be larger. The sebaceous glands in each of those pores are are also busier creating sebum. Because clothes cover so many of these active glands, the produced sebum quickly forms a pool on the skin. This is why, even away from the face, acne skin care is very important for acne prevention.

No dermatologist will suggest that a patient with body acne become a nudist! Still, a patient should try to wear clothes that help his or her skin to “breathe.” Clothes made with cotton fabrics are ideal. Clothes made with synthetic fabrics only manage to aggravate body acne.

Anybody with body acne should pay attention to all the objects or materials that touch or put pressure on any part of their skin. A backpack can help to worsen a case of back acne. The patient with the back acne should consider carrying a bag in his or her hands to help prevent acne. (A bag with a shoulder strap might also irritate the skin, and give rise to more body acne.)

Frequent showers are a must for a patient with body acne. While showering, the patient should not use a rough wash cloth or a strong soap. Instead, use a soft sponge and a body wash that is gentle on the skin.

Not everyone who needs to deal with body acne has oily skin. A person with dry skin can develop a case of body acne. In some cases, hormonal changes or decreases can cause adult acne. These people need to pay attention to how he or she goes about adding moisture to their very dry skin. A patient with both dry skin and body acne needs to use a non-comedongenic moisturizer.

For a very bad case of body acne, a patient might want to consult with a physician about prescription acne medication. A female with body acne has the option of using oral contraceptives.
