A person with acne will usually
hear repeated warnings about the foolishness of squeezing
an acne pimple. Even so, many people still 'pop' their
zits which can lead to other issues.
The squeezing of an acne “zit” can cause acne
scars. Skin that has been squeezed typically forms a red
or brown mark. Although these marks and blemishes eventually
fade away, they can remain on the skin for up to 12 months.
Of course, not every person with acne can resist the temptation
to squeeze one or more of their annoying acne pimples.
This is why so many acne patients must later deal with
acne scarring and thus look for acne
scar removal procedures and treatments.
The newest type of acne scar reduction includes a combination
of equipment and chemical aids. The type of technoology
for reduction of acne scars utilizes the action of two
different lasers. One is the Vbeam laser, and the other
is the Cool Touch laser.
The Vbeam laser is used on the skin for people suffering
from rosacea, as well as on skin with acne scars. The
Vbeam produces a laser light that can be absorbed by the
red pigment in the skin. Both scarred skin and skin damaged
by Rosacea contains a red pigment. Absorption of the laser
beam’s light heats up the specific spots of skin
that have red pigment.
On patients with Rosacea, the heat coagulates the blood
vessels in the skin. When a patient has acne scars, the
heat acts in a manner that prevents the recurrence of
acne flare-ups. By preventing a recurrence the Vbeam aids
in acne reduction.
The Vbeam laser works in combination with the Cool Touch
laser and with a substance called Levulan. While the Vbeam
laser removes red from acne scar tissue, the Cool Touch
laser tightens the skin from the inside out. The laser
beams exfoliate the outer layer of skin. The blue light
from the laser beam activates the Levulan.
What is Levulan? Levulan is a substance that contains
5-aminolvulinic acid (organic). When the combination of
Vbeam lasers and Cool Touch lasers activate the organic
acid, it shuts down production of sebum in the sebaceous
gland. As the sebaceous gland ceases production of sebum,
the skin experiences far fewer clogged skin pores. Fewer
clogged pores means less acne and less acne scarring,
thus acne scar reduction.
