Acne Scar Treatments

Laser treatments give doctors a means to treat acne scars. Yet doctors do not depend only on the cutting action of the laser beam. Doctors can also use alternative methods for treating and removing scar tissue. Acne scar treatments are very cutting-edge and have always been popular in the health field.

Like laser treatments and blue light acne treatment, dermabrasion can be used to remove unwanted acne scars. Laser treatment involves removing dead cells so that underlying cells can grow and rejuvenate the surface of the skin.

What is dermabrasion, and why does it work?

Dermabrasion involves the use of a motorized spinning brush which contains diamond particles. The moving, rough surface removes the old scar tissue, just like a laser beam does in laser treatment. Both the acne laser treatment and dermabrasion initiate the process of skin regeneration and can give a patient smooth, unscarred skin in a period of three to ten days.

The severity of the scarring on the skin helps to determine the type of acne scar treatments to be used for the removal of the scars. A doctor familiar with a patient’s skin can help a patient determine whether or not to use a laser treatment, dermabrasion or possibly a third type of acne scar treatment.

In some cases, a doctor may suggest the use of a chemical peel amongst the other acne scar treatments. When an acne patient receives a chemical peel, he or she has “naked minerals” put on his or her scar tissue. The “naked minerals” give the cells in the deep part of the skin added nutrition. The chemical peel process allows those “naked minerals” to penetrate below the surface of the skin resulting in acne scar removal.

By supplying deep skin cells with added nutrition, one can speed the rate at which those cells divide and more up to the outer layer of skin. The movement of deep skin cells to the upper layer of skin causes the removal of the old skin cells, treating the acne scars, and facilitating in acne scar reduction.

There is yet another way by which doctors can treat and remove acne scars. This additional method involves the injection of material under the skin. By injecting the material under scarred, depressed skin, a doctor can raise the level of the skin tissue making it even with the healthy skin.

For the most severe types of acne scars, a doctor may rule out any of the aforementioned treatments, and he or she might decide to make arrangements for surgical removal of the scarred skin.
