Acne Laser Skin Treatment
Acne laser skin treatment is fast becoming one of the more popular
treatments types for acne. Laser treatment in general is one of the
fastest growing treatments in medicine; used for various treatments
such as surgery, stretch marks, scarring, hair loss, eye surgery and
more. Laser
treatment for acne scars is also very common. There are many different
types of acne laser treatment, including blue light acne treatment
and laser therapy. This article describes laser surgery as an acne
treatment.
Burning the follicle sac: Lasers have the unique
ability to cut or burn certain layers of the skin, without affecting
other layers. This property is particularly conducive to treating
acne. Sometimes, the laser is used to burn away follicle sacs, the
area where your hair grows from. This is because some follicle sacs
can start to shrink, which then increases the chance of blockages
and finally acne.
Burning the sebaceous gland: Acne laser treatment
is also used to burn away the sebaceous gland altogether, thereby
completely eradicating sebum production in that pore or follicle.
When used on multiple pores in the acne affected area, the result
is an overall decrease in sebum production and secretion, and in essence,
less oily skin. Further, if one pore gives consistent acne flare-up
problems, burning away the sebaceous gland can help reduce that chance
of P. Acnes bacteria multiplying in the pore itself.
Oxygenating the bacteria: This common acne
laser treatment constitutes using a laser directly on the bacterium.
In some cases the laser is used to kill the P. Acnes bacteria –
but not directly via burning or removing. The laser is actually tuned
to change the composition of the bacteria, making it produce excess
oxygen. The result is that the bacteria start to kill themselves,
thus greatly reducing the amount of P. Acnes bacteria present on the
skin.
All of these methods have different degrees of efficacy for acne
removal. In most cases, laser surgery is quite costly and is not
always covered by your medical insurance. Further, laser surgery is
usually completed in multiple steps where multiple visits and sessions
may be necessary to get the desired results. Therefore, it is recommended
that you try alternate acne
treatments first and that you speak to your doctor or dermatologist
about your options.
Laser surgery benefits:
Acne treatment that does not require harmful chemicals
Can have a long lasting result for many patients
Pain free and works in a relatively short time
Laser surgery downsides:
Can be costly and may not be covered
Many sessions may be necessary
Does not work for everyone
